Electromagnetic Inductance for Mapping Soil Salinity in the Serry Command Area: a Preliminary Investigation
This report is the result of activities of the Ministry of Irrigation's Regional Improvement Project (RIIP). Presented findings of an effort to assess the applications of electromagnetic inductance techniques for mapping soil salinity levels in the irrigated Nile River Valley and Delta regions of Egypt. The activity described herein was performed in conjunction with an intensive field effort described in a separate related report. Utilizing field data gathered in that effort, the alternative of measuring bulk soil salinity by electromagnetic inductance was investigated. This alternative was of interest because of the potential for reliable results with significantly less intensive field work and limited requirements for soil analysis and laboratory costs. The application of this technique in Egypt was previously undefined.
