Combatting Covid-19 in Africa
USAID’s Water for Africa through Leadership and Institutional Support (WALIS) program partners with the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) to build data platforms that aggregate data on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) needs throughout Africa. The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged WASH infrastructure in many African nations, leading countries to search for data-based solutions to many pandemic related issues. Tanzania’s Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender Elderly and Children is successfully using WALIS and AMCOW’s database to identify Covid-19 hotspots and allocate WASH resources to slow the disease’s spread.
