Responding to COVID-19's Impact on Resilience and Food Security
Handwashing is one of the best defenses against the spread of Covid-19. But, developed and developing countries alike have issues providing universal access to effective water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. The pandemic poses a threat to short- and long-term WASH because of financial hardships and disrupted supply chains, possibly leading to a regression in water expansion. Additionally, nearly $260 billion is lost yearly due to lack of water and sanitation access, making an expansion of reliable WASH service vital to a strong post-pandemic economic recovery. Governments and NGO’s should work diligently to keep utility providers financially secure, extend service to at risk communities, and develop contingency plans in case of further Covid-19 developments.
