VOLUME 1 OF THIS MANUAL COVERS THE TECHNOLOGY OF DESALINATION PROCESSES. THE MANUAL WAS PREPARED FOR A.I.D. TO GUIDE ITS OFFICERS IN EVALUATING AND DETERMINING THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY OF DESALINATION PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS FOR WHICH U.S. ASSISTANCE MAY BE SOUGHT OR FURNISHED. THE MANUAL IS ALSO OF USE TO ADMINISTRATORS AND TECHNICAL PERSONNEL IN LDCS. THIS FIRST PART OF VOL. 1 DISCUSSES SALINE WATER PHENOMENA AND DEFINITIONS, FOCUSING ON SEAWATER ANALYSIS, BRACKISH WATER ANALYSIS AND SALINITY TERMINOLOGY. IT ALSO GIVES A STATE OF THE ART REVIEW OF DESALINATION PROCESSES AND COVERS DISTILLATION, FREEZING AND CRYSTALLIZATION, ELECTRODIALYSIS, AND REVERSE OSMOSIS PROCESSES.
