The strategy and the program had an irrigated farming development component with a double purpose: to assure that part of cereals production would be protected from climatic vagaries and to contribute towards food self-sufficiency by producing part of the crops which require irrigation in the Sahel. Expert missions visited different Sahelian countries during 1979 and the synthesis of that data is collected in this report.
