Breeding of Notopterus Borneensis (Bleeker): Carried Out in South Sumatra, Indonesia
Methods for the natural breeding of the Notopterus borneensis (Bleeker) fish under controlled conditions are presented in this manual based on successful breeding activities carried out in South Sumatra province, Indonesia. An introductory section highlights the importance of the species as a commodity in Indonesia in that it is both consumed locally and distributed to other regions. General biological data on the species is provided including a description of its geographical distribution and fecundity rate. Experiences in breeding activities are reported including preparing broodstocks, setting up the spawning ground, monitoring spawning activity, incubating the eggs, and rearing larvae and fry (a diagram identifies age-specific breeding activities). The manual is illustrated with photographs corresponding to each activity.
