Community Water Supply in Developing Countries: a Quarter-Century of United States Assistance
Significant water supply related activities through the private sector are underway in developing countries. Many wells and village water supplies have been sponsored by the American missionaries and church affiliated groups. only about one-third of the urban population and less than 10 percent of the total population are supplied with piped water. Even where piped supplies exist, their safety is often limited by intermittent service and failure to meet even minimum hygienic standards.
