Proceedings of the Seminar - Workshop on Artisan Fisheries Development and Aquaculture in Central America and Panama
Contains 16 papers, workshop reports, and other proceedings of a conference on artisan fisheries and aquaculture activities in the Central American region. The papers are organized in two parts: descriptions of these activities in individual countries of the region, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and Venezuela where related problems and solutions exist; and discussions of various general aspects of artisan fishery and aquaculture development, related institutions and organizations, marketing, improvements in fishing technology, processing and handling, resource availability, and socio-cultural barriers to the transfer of technology. Three workshop reports cover policy and strategy for development; institutional framework and development; and changes and transfer of technology. The appendix provides statements on the current state of fisheries in six Central American countries. Relevant data tables and maps are included.
