Report on Tubewell Command Area Development Project
Agricultural development has been emphasized by the Government of Bangladesh to attain self-sufficiency in food production in Second Five Year Plan. This could be achieved by increasing cropping intensity and per acre yield of crops with the help of irrigation. Land in Bangladesh is already limited, so the only way left is to utilize the land more intensively for crop production by maximizing capacity utilization of irrigation equipment. In recent years irrigation equipment have been installed in large numbers, however, most of these equipment are not being used to their optimum capacity, thus leading to low yield and their gross under-utilization.
