Study of Recurrent Cost Problems in Irrigation Systems, Sri Lanka: Final Report
There are no Government sponsored credit schemes for the irrigated food production sector. There is a floor price scheme of the Government where Rs. 62.50 is paid for a bushel of paddy. But substantial quantities of paddy are sold by farmers to private traders in the open market. There are also floor prices for a few other food crops such as potatoes, cow-pea, onions, green-gram and dry chilies. But the quantities purchased by the Government are negligible.
