Training Strategies for International Participants: a Workshop Report
Training strategies developed at an October 1985 workshop on water management and agricultural development projects are presented in this report. The bulk of the report consists of summaries of small, interdisciplinary group discussions on the following critical issues identified in an opening brainstorming session: (1) on-campus adult training (nondegree programs); (2) selection of the training audience; (3) expectations of trainees versus objectives of trainers; (4) identification of training needs for improving irrigated agriculture; (5) trainee follow-up (this emerged as a major topic); (6) evaluation; and (7) training team composition. Summaries of two presentations, "Training To Bring About Change" and "Team Planning Meetings," are included in the report. Appendices include a paper on intercultural communication in training and results of a post-workshop questionnaire.
