Aquaculture
According to the World Resources Institute, aquaculture—or fish farming—has grown rapidly to meet world fish demand, more than doubling production between 2000 and 2012. New research shows that aquaculture production will need to more than double again between now and 2050 to meet the demands of a growing population. Resources available in this sub-theme include aquaculture development strategies, country-wide aquaculture project reports, and institutional practices for aquaculture strengthening, among other resources that support improving aquaculture globally.

Catch - At - Length Analysis That Incorporates a Stochastic Model of Growth
Published:
September 1, 1989U.S. Agency for International Development
A length-structured population model, which incorporates von Bertalanffy growth, is used to describe changes in population abundance over time. The model is incorporated into a catch-at-length algorithm that uses a nonlinear least squares approach to estimate relative abundance, fishing mortality...Read more
Spatio - Temporal Variations in Community Structure on a Heavily Fished Slope in Bolinao, Philippines
Published:
August 1, 1989U.S. Agency for International Development
An analysis of variations in community structure along a heavily fished fore reef slope in the Philippines indicates that depth and heterogeneity at the 1 and 10 cm scales were dominant structuring factors. Bottom temperature also appeared to be influential, but its effect was difficult to isolate...Read more

Importance of Mangroves in Sustaining Fisheries and Controlling Water Quality in Coastal Ecosystems [: Progress Report]
Published:
July 1, 1989U.S. Agency for International Development
The goal of this research program is to investigate specific mangrove properties under different types of geomorphology. Predictions of ecosystem function based on models of mangrove processes are presently restricted to specific environmental settings. Thus the application of mangrove management...Read more
