Pollution and Water Quality
According to the United Nations, declining water quality has become a global issue of concern as human populations grow, industrial and agricultural activities expand, and climate change threatens to cause major alterations to the hydrological cycle. Resources available in this sub-theme include manuals describing water quality testing and treatment, reports and assessments of water quality from around the world, methods of maintaining water quality and managing pollution, and other resources that support enabling environments for effective water quality control.

Effect of Agricultural Use on Water Quality for Downstream Use for Irrigation
Published:
July 1, 1973U.S. Agency for International Development
Studies the effect of irrigation return flow on downstream irrigation water quality in the Sevier, Colorado, and Rio Grande river systems, and in the Imperial Valley of Southern California. The report begins by reviewing significant literature on irrigation return flow. Next, water quality criteria...Read more

United States, North AmericaStudies of the Biogeochemistry of Boron: Concentrations in Surface Waters, Rainfall, and Aquatic Plants
Published:
April 12, 1972U.S. Agency for International Development
Boron concentrations in streams, swamps, ponds and reservoirs of the southeastern United States were usually below 100 ppb. Levels of boron in rainfall varied greatly between different periods of precipitation, but the highest concentrations were observed during winter. However, most rainfall...Read more
Salt Water Coning Beneath Fresh Water Wells
Published:
April 1, 1972U.S. Agency for International Development, Colorado State University
This research investigates the phenomenon of salt water coning below a discharge well partially penetrating an aquifer in which fresh water is underlain by saline water. The first portion of this report is concerned with the evaluation of techniques presently available for analyzing the performance...Read more
Report of Weed Control and Water Quality Study in the Zapotitan Valley
