Aquaculture
According to the World Resources Institute, aquaculture—or fish farming—has grown rapidly to meet world fish demand, more than doubling production between 2000 and 2012. New research shows that aquaculture production will need to more than double again between now and 2050 to meet the demands of a growing population. Resources available in this sub-theme include aquaculture development strategies, country-wide aquaculture project reports, and institutional practices for aquaculture strengthening, among other resources that support improving aquaculture globally.

Role of Chicken Manure in The Production of Nile Tilapia, Oreochromis Niloticus (L.)
Published:
January 1, 1993U.S. Agency for International Development
Two grow-out experiments were conducted to evaluate the functional role of chicken manure for Nile tilapia. Oreochromis niloticus (L.), production in central Thailand. Experiment 1 examined the relationship between chicken manure input and net fish yield (NFY). Experiment 2 determined the value of...Read more

Thailand, East Asia and PacificDetermination and Comparison of Bivalve Growth, with Emphasis on Thailand and Other Tropical Areas
Published:
January 1, 1992U.S. Agency for International Development
An analysis of the shell microstructure of A. granosa and P. viridis experimentally cultured in coastal waters of Thailand revealed that the formation of growth lines was closely related to tidal periodicity. This study concludes that growth lines are formed when the bivalves react with shell...Read more

Published:
October 1, 1991U.S. Agency for International Development
Nine successive 5-month experiments which examined relationships between fertilization strategies, water quality and yields of Nile tilapia took place February 1985 through March 1990 in 16 earthen ponds at the Ayutthaya Freshwater Fisheries Center, Bang Sai, Thailand. Over the course of these...Read more

Published:
March 1, 1991U.S. Agency for International Development
The Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture CRSP has been conducting a series of experiments in pond systems around the world since 1982. The first cycle of experiments evaluated pond dynamics under low nutrient input rates during wet and dry seasons. The second cycle of experiments evaluated pond dynamics...Read more

Nile tilapia (Oreochromisniloticus)are commonly grown in ponds fertilized to increase primary and secondary production. The fertilization fishponds has been widely studied, often with conflicting results. Temperate ponds, with low stocking densities, seem to require only phosphorus additions(Yamada...Read more
